Thanks Mikey good info , slowly getting to the point of ordering ..

But in the mean time I've started fitting the bits I've got,so, no CF yet Nelly but some purple rubbery stuff and new bits of metal. In other words rear drop links and Powerflex ARB bushes. With the amount of corrosion and the need to chop off a couple of nuts I've a feeling these have been on since the day it came out of Hethel.

Also the Diffuser and back panel are off , disassembled ready for a quick clean and off to get powder coated.

Thanks Lee, not as fast as id like but too fing cold at the mo to be crawling around on a concrete floor... How ever not to cold do get some one else in to do something I can't...

Headlights have had their lacquer removed , polished and rather than have them resprayed I've had a ceramic anti UV coating put on so from this

To this
IMG_20210214_195419.jpg
Photos don't show how bad they were but I'm sure they hadn't been touched since the car was new .... Or when the front bumper was replaced ...

For £70 happy with the results ... Might look at getting UV resistant PPF come spring . At least that can be easily pealed off every few years

Well the interloper in the garage has gone so the Evora has "assumed the position"
IMG_20210221_125119.jpg
First off was to get the front under tray off
.. what an fing job that was, ended up grinding off a number of bolts where they had fused to the ali tray and it was full of crap inside so I don't think it's been off for a while.
IMG_20210221_125142~2.jpg
Then on to the front ARB drop links and bushes , again the grinder was my friend , I'm fairly sure these were the factory fit items so it will be interesting to see the improvement as there are many threads suggesting the drop links are consumable service items.

So more done this weekend.

All the various grilles resprayed 3 in the front bumper off and in the spraying line and 4 I couldn't get off with more serious surgery masked up and sprayed in situ. Took a level of James Herriot impressions to stuff my arm far enough into the car to get padding on the back of the grilles to minimis spray onto the ducts.

Will post some finished pics when more is back together . But once off they where properly shot so in dire need of some TLC.

IMG_20210315_182605~2.jpg
The re-coated diffuser and back panel now a better contrast than faded grey, the black plastic trim has also been coated with Gintec G4 to recover it's correct shade.

And the grilles looking much better

So some more done over the last few days...

Firstly I was fed up of getting a car boot lid on my bonce so new struts to help keep it up..
IMG_20210315_214324~2.jpg
Using an industry standard safety prop ...
IMG_20210315_214748~2.jpg
Then minor interior fix swapping out the knackered instrument access panel that was suffering noticeable leather shrinkage
IMG_20210315_220800~2.jpg
And finally I decided I was missing the feeling of a cold knob in my hand on a winter's morning so out with the old worn leather item
IMG_20210315_224940~2.jpg
And in with a new ally one as used in the newer cars
IMG_20210315_221151~2.jpg
IMG_20210315_225346~2.jpg
Final bits on the outside to do which may or may not include some CF elements then I think after doing some reading an Aircon service as low pressure might be the reason it runs the stop s cooling... Something to do with pipes freezing according to TLF.

Next/final jobs are to sort the usual cracks on the black plastic panels. Firstly the usual crack across the vent panel , this had annoyed me since I got the car so off it comes .
IMG_20210316_085001.jpg
It's an easy 5 bolts and 2 spigots .... But first jack up your car and get the undertray off (again) as your bound to drop a socket / extension/nut trying to get to them tucked neatly out of the way.

Shot of the gap with the panel removed holes for bolts in red , spigots in blue
IMG_20210316_092352~3.jpg
Panel slotted in place with the obligatory blue masking tape to protect the edges
IMG_20210316_122513~2.jpg
Fixed in place and shined.
IMG_20210316_123945~3.jpg
Quite please with it.

Re: The White Evora Thread now with added CF

Post by cdco2 » Wed Mar 17, 2021 9:25 pm

And now the final finishes , the cracked plastic A Pilar covers. I didn't photo these until I was done so no before & during only after ... But much more of a PITA than the vent panel ... Only 4 nuts but loads of double side foam tape which was a real time stealer when getting the old stuff off and cleaned up before putting on new . But happy with the outcome think blue suits
IMG_20210317_111337.jpg
only joking I.covered them in tape to prevent scratching the top coat ... final finish below , I've got to admit I'm happy with the quality and finish. All the CF was from Elise-Shop and the import process painless and I think no more expensive than when I first priced them up prior to Brexit.
IMG_20210317_185822~2.jpg
So all finished with the planned work ....

Thanks Andy , as the weather has been so crap this weekend I've been under the Evora again, I've been bit unhappy with the gear change since I got it, it always feels a bit recalcitrant . I've never been sure if it was just the Diesel Auris derived box , something not quite right in the gearbox rebuild it's had or the clutch not dissenagaging cleanly . So as a new slave was only £50 ish from Elise parts I got one ordered to put on "when I had time" .. And as I cant start the planned garden re work whilst its under water (hence the re work) I got on with it this weekend .

So arm back up here
PSX_20210328_191201.jpg
I'm sure there is a Lotus special tool called "quad jointed mechanics arm with finger mounted eyeball" as it feels like that's what you need to get to the slave cylinder... Can you spot it in the photo!

I also cant believe it wasn't just changed when the box was rebuilt and the clutch replaced , but the stack of receipts suggest not. Done , bled and feels better , but that might be me just justifying another weekend under the car.

I've also had the AC drained and refilled , it was low in refrigerant so according to TLF that may be the cause of the Aircon working then stopping on runs, something to do with the pipes freezing if it's not fully charged. Time will tell on that one.

Also final touch managed to replace the missing Launch Edition Plaque which I think was taken off when the PPF was applied.
PSX_20210328_191804.jpg
So definitely no more until after the TD on the 17th...
