Still living under Danelaw
Still living under Danelaw
Hello and thank you for accepting me to the group.
My name is John and I met a couple of Norlog members at the Cumbria International Motor Show on Sunday. In fact spotting a sticker in a rear window of an Elise has led me here. I must apologise that I have already forgotten the names of those I met, but I was jet-lagged having arrived back at Gatwick on Saturday morning and then driving home to Cumbria (I live near Sedbergh).
I hope to get along to a few group meetings soon, but this may not be easy as I am often away with work and when I return my social activities, and Lotus spending, are ruled by my wife. As she is Danish I am living under Danelaw (hence the user name) long after this has finished as a reality for most in the North.
I am a long term Lotus owner having had an Eclat for many years (most of them not driveable), until this made way for an Evora in 2014. My oldest daughter has an Elise so I have an interest in that model too. Although I suspect the majority of Lotus owners have an interest in most of the Lotus models.

Re: Still living under Danelaw
Thanks for the welcome messages. I've been out at a parish council meeting this evening so a bit late logging in, but can see that I need to find some pictures so that's my next task tonight. For somebody who works with technology I'm still quite new to social media so it may not be instant so don't hold your breath, but it will happen.

Ah ha - quick solution, pinch an image from the show on Sunday that is on Facebook. Credit goes to 'HuddleHub' whoever that is:

Another pic stolen from 'HuddleHub's Facebook post
This is my daughter's Elise S. Her first car is a Lotus. How I wish I could have said that my first car was a Lotus rather than a rusty old chevette.

Re: Still living under Danelaw
And for good measure a photo from the show on Sunday I took with my telephone:

This has a few other Lotus cars on it too. I hope the owners don't mind, but many more photos are circulating from the show so hiding number plates now would be bolting the stable door...

For those who claim the rear seats in an Evora are only for show, here is a picture from a family holiday when we drove from Cumbria to Copenhagen through the Netherlands and North Germany. We've done this a few times now with all four of us and a couple of times with just three of us.

Welcome along
Actually I did have a chat with you both even though not as a 'Norlogger'. It was the Canyon Red that caught my eye, it did look stunning in the sunshine and I can say that your daughter looks after her car a little better than my 2 do
Love the pic from inside the Evora, I remember how you described how everyone got in, rather them than me I think
Hope to see you at a meet or event sometime

Re: Still living under Danelaw
Thanks. The pic from inside was a very quick impromptu selfie my daughter took as we were stationary with the engine switched off waiting for sailing boats to pass under a swing bridge in Denmark. We were singing along to something and my wife had been relegated to a back seat. I was very surprised that we were even all on it, let alone all looking at the camera!
When we've done these trips we've had the option of taking larger cars, or flying, and everybody has preferred the fun of going in the Evora. It is a squeeze for 4, or even 3, but it's been great fun with us all together. We try to stop at least every 2 hours to stretch legs, although we have done a few longer stints. I don't think you could do this in a 911 as the suspension is harsher, but it's possible in the Evora if the rear seat passengers don't mind being in close contact.
I've had a quick look at calendars and the July meets are looking good. The June meets may be possible, just depending on some work, and I'll have to wait until a little closer to decide if they're feasible for me.

Re: Still living under Danelaw
Thanks Xav, but honestly it is fun and I don't deserve the respect - although perhaps the girls do...
